Block 08 consists of at least 6 veterans of the Civil War.
In the circular location is the body of brevet Brigadier General Stephen G. Champlin. He began the war as major of the 3rd Michigan Infantry and eventually commanded that regiment. After he was wounded he was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps (also known as the Invalid Corps) and was ultimately brevetted brigadier general. He was commanding Camp Lee, the military rendezvous camp in Grand Rapids when he died of consumption on January 26, 1864.
Lot 10. Richard Pennell served in Company F 8th Michigan Cavalry.
Lot 13. John Alcott reportedly served in Company D 123rd New York Infantry (that has not been confirmed).
Lot 18. Chauncey B. Carpenter served in Company E 21st Michigan Infantry.
Lot 19. Originally from Holland, MI, William Walker joined Company I 25th Michigan Infantry.
Lot 21. According to at least two sources William Newton Cook reportedly served during the war. He is not listed in the Michigan regimental state index.
