Civil War Veterans in Fulton Cemetery block 9

Block 09 consists of at least 7 veterans of the Civil War. For many years there was an unknown African-American soldier in lot 40. His remains were removed to Ft Custer National Cemetery in the 1980s.


Lot 3. John Lewis of Battery E 1st Michigan Light Artillery and Ira Van Stinsel of Company D 1st Michigan Engineers & Mechanics.



Lot 7. Joseph Herkner, one of the city's most well-known jewelers after the war, served in Company D 1st Michigan Engineers & Mechanics.


Lot 11. According to sources Aaron Stander reportedly served in the Civil War but he is not found in the Michigan regimental index.


Lot 37. William E. Rowe served in the 2nd Michigan Cavalry and Horace Seymour served in Battery E 1st Michigan Light Artillery.



Lot 40. According to sources Krine Whitefleet served in the Civil War but he is not found in the Michigan regimental index.
