Steam Boat Lexington

He lies beneath the lone blue sea
He sleeps where the pearls lie deep
He was loved of all yet none
by his grave may keep

in Long Island Sound
opposite
Huntongton Lighthouse
on the evening of Jan. 13,
1840
by which disaster
of 150 persons, passengers
and crew
only 4 were saved.

while on his passage home from Europe
on board the U.S. M. Steam Ship Arctic
by collision with the French Steamer Vesta.
The Arctic foundering in 5 hours
carrying down 200 passengers and
over 100 of her officers and crew.
His estimable character,
and enduring qualities as a husband,
father, son, brother, and friend. . .
