He came from Bristol, England,
to Boston
with Roger Williams,
in the ship Lion A.D. 1631,
resided several years in Salem,
and came to Providence
in the spring of 1638.
In May 1644, he was before the general court
of Massachusetts,
and found to be "erroneous,
heretical and obstinate,"
and was "banished
upon pain of death
if he return."
Side 3:
He died, in October, 1673;
and on the 26th day
of that month
was buried on this consecrated spot,
where also rest the remains
of his descendants
to the third generation.
